I'm impressed that you managed to handle Michael so well. He never felt like a stick figure. And, while this was definitely tinged with melancholy, it ended on a hopeful note. The scene in which Illya is bleeding is particularly poignant, especially when he mistakes Michael for Napoleon. In my head, Napoleon and Illya get back together later (possibly even during the movie) and are able to pick up the pieces and rebuild. Thanks for writing and sharing.

Nice sequel. I remember reading The Safety of Distance a long time ago and it was a wrencher. Now that Illya has left UNCLE, can we get a PART THREE where he's reunited with Napoleon? Pretty please?

Beautiful, beautiful story. So sad. The idea of telling it through another's viewpoint was excellent. The sadness and emptiness came through more strongly than if it were Illya's story or an omniscient viewpoint. I congratulate you.

Oh wow. That is really powerful and I'm glad you posted it. But now you have to finish the trilogy. I don't think I can stand to have it end here. I really got hooked on Illya's feelings and want some resolution for him.
